A sharp exchange erupted in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi faced off during discussions on the government’s proposed electoral reforms. The tension, which had been building since Gandhi’s earlier remarks on the reforms, came to a head when he challenged the Home Minister over the rationale behind granting full immunity to election commissioners.

Gandhi pressed Shah to address the “thinking” behind provisions that, according to him, raise concerns about transparency and accountability in the Election Commission. The LOP insisted the minister clarify the motives before moving further with his address.

Shah, however, pushed back strongly, asserting that parliamentary convention—not opposition leaders—determines the flow of speeches. “I have 30 years of experience in assemblies & Parliament. You won't decide the order of my speech,” the Home Minister retorted, triggering a wave of reactions across the House.
