As floodwaters from the Ganga and Yamuna rivers gradually recede in Prayagraj, the scale of destruction is becoming clear. Nearly 70,000 people have lost their homes, while over 2,000 houses lie damaged beyond repair. The total flood-affected population is estimated at close to five lakh, with many still facing shortages of clean water and food.

Agriculture has suffered severe losses, with more than 2,000 hectares of paddy and vegetable crops destroyed, according to the state agriculture department. The disaster has impacted over 290 villages and around 60 city localities, disrupting livelihoods and displacing thousands.

Relief efforts are underway, with 9,368 people currently sheltered in 21 relief camps, while others are staying in rented homes or with relatives. To reach marooned residents, authorities have deployed 330 boats and 29 motorboats, though 68 villages remain cut off due to damaged roads and bridges.

Rescue and relief operations involve 630 personnel from the NDRF and SDRF, working under challenging conditions. Health concerns are mounting, with reports of water contamination and unsanitary conditions increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said that surveys to assess home and crop losses are ongoing. “Once the assessment is complete, cleanup and restoration work will begin,” he stated. The floods have also damaged over 200 roads and bridges, leaving several regions paralysed.
