In a surprising move, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Ravindra Solanki openly criticized the Delhi government's Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana, which promises to increase financial aid for women from ?1,000 to ?2,100. Solanki questioned the implementation of the scheme, alleging that the government had failed to deliver on its original ?1,000 allowance before announcing the new initiative.
Speaking to ANI, Solanki said, "A lot of women come to the office asking about the ?1,000 allowance. So far, no ?1,000 allowance has been given, and now they are queuing up for the ?2,100 proposed allowance. We want to tell Kejriwal ji that he should have first fulfilled the promise of the ?1,000 allowance before announcing another scheme." He added, "The public no longer trusts us, and we have no answers for them."
The criticism comes after public notices were issued by Delhi's Women and Child Development and Health Departments distancing themselves from the proposed schemes. The notices clarified that the promised ?2,100 allowance for women and free treatment for the elderly had not been notified or implemented.
The Women and Child Development Department's notice stated, "It is emphasized that since no such scheme is in existence, the question of acceptance of the form/application for registration under this non-existent scheme does not arise. Any private person/political party who is collecting forms/applications or collecting information from applicants in the name of this scheme is committing fraud and has no authority."
Reacting to the controversy, AAP leader and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of being behind the confusion, claiming the opposition was "rattled" by the announcement of these schemes. Kejriwal also alleged that Delhi Chief Minister Atishi could face arrest in a "fake" case as a political ploy by the BJP.
