Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and Kannauj MP Akhilesh Yadav has responded to the controversy surrounding his party leader Ramji Lal Suman’s remarks on Rajput ruler Rana Sanga. Taking to social media, Yadav asserted that the SP does not question Rana Sanga’s bravery or patriotism and clarified that the party has no intention of insulting the Rajput community.
"The Samajwadi Party believes in social justice and an egalitarian society. We want to ensure that even the weakest individuals receive respect. Our objective is not to insult any historical figure. The Samajwadi Party does not question the bravery and patriotism of Mewar’s King Rana Sanga," Yadav wrote.
He accused the BJP of using history for political gains and dividing the country on religious and caste lines. "The BJP has always exploited historical events for its own benefit. Our MP only attempted to highlight how history is often written and interpreted from a one-sided perspective," he added.
Yadav further stated that governance decisions in history were made based on the circumstances of their time and should not be used to shape today's democratic system. He also attacked the BJP for ignoring real issues like unemployment, healthcare, and security while engaging in "divisive politics."
The controversy erupted after SP MP Ramji Lal Suman referred to Rana Sanga as a “traitor” in a recent speech, sparking outrage from the Rajput community. In response, the Karni Sena announced a protest outside Suman’s residence in Agra. The demonstration escalated into violence, with visuals showing an angry mob vandalizing the house and throwing objects. The police intervened, but several officers were injured in the clash.
