Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a blistering attack on the Congress party during his visit to Rudrapur on Saturday, accusing it of suppressing the voices of those who fought for the creation of Uttarakhand. “When the people of Uttarakhand were demanding statehood, the Congress responded with torture and brutality,” he said, recalling the sacrifices made by protestors during the statehood agitation.
Shah was in Rudrapur to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 19 developmental projects worth ₹1,271 crore. Joining him was Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who lauded Shah’s continued commitment to strengthening the state’s infrastructure and governance.
“Five projects were inaugurated and 14 foundation stones were laid today, all of which will play a key role in improving connectivity, health, and education in Uttarakhand,” said Shah, pressing a digital button to symbolically launch the initiatives.
In a historical reminder, Shah credited the BJP and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for Uttarakhand’s statehood. “Atal ji’s vision created three states—Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Today, all three stand tall on their own feet, proving that smaller states can succeed with proper leadership and intent,” Shah added.
The visit also included a warm public felicitation for Shah by CM Dhami. The duo emphasized the government’s dedication to accelerating Uttarakhand’s growth, with Dhami stating, “Under PM Modi and Home Minister Shah’s leadership, Uttarakhand is not just growing—it’s thriving.”
A day earlier, Shah addressed the returning Indian Police and Fire Services contingent who brought home 613 medals from the 21st World Police and Fire Games in Birmingham, Alabama. “Your victory brings pride to the entire nation,” Shah said, also announcing that India will host the next edition of the global event.
