Addressing the 2nd National Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of States and Union Territories, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the critical importance of extradition and deportation of fugitives involved in drug trafficking.
Shah said, “Deportation and extradition of fugitives, both these things are very important. Now the time has come to bring people who are doing drug business here while sitting abroad, within the net of our law. CBI has done a very good job in this. I request all the A&TF presidents to contact the CBI director and set up a system for extradition, which will not only be useful for drugs, terrorism, gangs, but also for everything else.”
He further stressed the practical necessity of deportation, noting, “Those whom you have kept in jail here are promoting business from here in some way or another. Some guidance has been given by the Home Ministry. A liberal approach should be taken towards the process, a way should be ensured for the arrangement of deporting them. The Home Department is going to issue an SOP for this, too…”
The Home Minister highlighted the need for a coordinated approach between ANTF heads and the CBI, ensuring that fugitives operating from abroad are brought under Indian jurisdiction. He emphasized that such measures will strengthen not only the fight against drug trafficking, but also against terrorism, organized crime, and other illegal activities.
