Launching a sharp political offensive ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah warned Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the BJP would not allow the construction of a Babri Masjid-like structure in the state if it comes to power. Addressing election rallies in key regions, Shah accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of encouraging such projects for political gains and asserted that his party would put a stop to them.

In a fiery speech, Shah directly targeted TMC leader Humayun Kabir, who had laid the foundation stone for the mosque project last year, saying, “Kaan khol kar sunn lo… koi maai ka laal Babri masjid nahi bana paayega,” intensifying the political rhetoric in the run-up to the polls. He further warned that the ruling leadership’s plans would not succeed, positioning the issue as a central theme in the BJP’s campaign narrative.

The controversy revolves around a proposed mosque project being built on nearly eight acres of private land, with an estimated cost of ₹86 crore. The project drew attention after its foundation stone was laid on December 6, a date associated with the demolition of the Babri Masjid demolition, adding to its political sensitivity.

With polling in West Bengal scheduled in two phases later this month, Shah’s remarks signal an escalation in the war of words between the BJP and the TMC, as both parties intensify their campaigns in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes electoral battle.
