Congress MP from Saharanpur, Imran Masood, has ignited fresh political debate by openly pitching Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the party’s future Prime Ministerial face, drawing a sharp parallel with her grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Speaking to the media, Masood said Priyanka Gandhi carries the political legacy and resolve of Indira Gandhi and would respond decisively on national security and foreign policy if given the top post. “Make her the Prime Minister and see the response. She is Indira Gandhi’s granddaughter. The world has not forgotten how Indira Gandhi dealt with Pakistan. Those scars still remain,” he said, using the powerful line, “Bana dijiye Pradhan Mantri.”

Masood’s remarks came amid BJP criticism targeting Priyanka Gandhi for allegedly not taking a strong stand on violence against minorities in Bangladesh. Countering the narrative, Masood asserted that Priyanka has consistently raised concerns over human rights and expects the Centre to act firmly on such issues.

The statement has added fuel to ongoing speculation within political circles about Priyanka Gandhi’s larger role in national politics. While the Congress leadership has not officially named any Prime Ministerial candidate, Masood’s comments reflect a growing section within the party that wants Priyanka to take centre stage.

Reacting to the buzz, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra acknowledged that there is increasing demand within the Congress for her to step forward. However, he stressed that the party’s immediate focus should remain on people-centric issues rather than power positions. He also said Priyanka has inherited political wisdom from multiple generations of leaders in her family and speaks “from the heart,” adding that her rise in national politics is only a matter of time.
