Early Life and Education

Bhavanaben Chimanbhai Solanki is a resident of Surat, Gujarat. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. Her educational background has equipped her with a good understanding of governance and civic administration, which she now applies in her role as a public representative.

Political Background

Bhavanaben Chimanbhai Solanki was elected as a Corporator from Ward No. 2 – Amroli–Mota Varachha–Kathor in the Surat Municipal Corporation elections held in 2021. She contested and won the seat on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket during the party’s debut performance in the region.

In early 2022, Bhavanaben was among five AAP corporators in Surat who publicly left the party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She cited personal grievances—particularly claims of discrimination within AAP by senior leadership—as the reason for her departure. The move occurred during a period of wider defections in Surat’s municipal body, which contributed to a decline in AAP numbers and strengthened the BJP’s majority in the council. (ETV Bharat)

Legal Record and Asset Details

She has no criminal cases registered against her. According to public disclosures during the election, her total assets were valued at approximately ₹9.8 lakh, with liabilities of around ₹2.2 lakh. This places her among the modest earners in municipal politics, reinforcing her image as a grassroots leader.

Fund Allocation and Utilization

As per the Surat Municipal Corporation norms, every corporator is provided with an annual development fund to undertake civic improvement projects within their ward. Bhavanaben Chimanbhai Solanki, representing Ward No. 2 – Amroli–Mota Varachha–Kathor, was allocated a total grant of ₹1,29,17,809. Out of this, an amount of ₹1,16,05,568 has been officially certified for expenditure.

However, only ₹66,03,376.61 has been actually spent so far, leaving ₹50,02,191.39 as unspent. This results in a certified unutilized balance of ₹63,14,432.39, which is not unusual, as fund disbursement and usage often face delays due to procedural approvals or ongoing infrastructure work.

Controversy

Bhavanaben has not been personally involved in any political controversy.

Major Achievements

During her tenure, Bhavanaben has actively participated in resolving local issues related to garbage disposal, water supply disruptions, and street lighting. She has conducted regular visits to her ward and has been seen addressing complaints directly from citizens. Though no large-scale development project has been attributed solely to her, her consistent involvement in ward-level services has earned her appreciation from local residents.

Key Political Initiatives

Her key initiatives include improving sanitation standards in residential areas, ensuring better drainage systems to prevent waterlogging, and advocating for clean drinking water. She has also supported local awareness campaigns related to hygiene, women’s safety, and civic responsibilities.

Promises and Future Commitments

Bhavanaben has promised to utilize her remaining development funds to enhance road connectivity in her ward and build better civic infrastructure like footpaths and covered drains. She has also committed to organizing more citizen meetings and health camps. Although she has not issued a written manifesto,
