The Uttar Pradesh government has announced major relief for people dealing with property matters, making registration of family property, rental agreements, and gift deeds much cheaper across the state.

In a key decision taken by the Yogi Adityanath-led cabinet on Tuesday, families dividing or registering ancestral property will now have to pay only ₹10,000 in total. This amount includes ₹5,000 as stamp duty and ₹5,000 as registration charges, bringing significant savings for households.

Tenants and landlords have also received big relief. The government has reduced stamp duty and registration charges on rent agreements by 90 per cent. Officials said this step will encourage people to register rental agreements legally, which can help prevent disputes between landlords and tenants.

Another important decision benefits families transferring property among close relatives. Property gifted between blood relations will now attract a flat stamp duty of just ₹5,000, no matter how expensive the property is. This move is expected to make family property transfers simpler and more affordable.

The cabinet meeting saw 14 proposals being discussed, of which 13 were approved. To improve public services related to property registration, the government also approved the construction of new stamp offices in Kushinagar and Jhansi.

Apart from property-related decisions, the cabinet cleared the Standard Operating Procedure of the Global Capacity Centre Policy. Under this policy, 21 industrial companies are likely to begin operations or construction this financial year, creating more than 10,000 jobs for young people in Uttar Pradesh.

In the education sector, the government took strict action by cancelling the recognition of JS University in Shikohabad after an investigation found irregularities related to fake marksheets. From now on, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Agra will handle the verification and management of students’ degrees and certificates.
