The Bharatiya Janata Party has launched a fresh political attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after a survey released by the Congress-led Karnataka government contradicted allegations of electoral manipulation. The findings, related to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, indicate strong public confidence in electronic voting machines and the overall conduct of elections in India.
According to BJP leaders, the data released by a state authority under the Karnataka government weakens claims made by Rahul Gandhi about alleged “vote theft” and doubts surrounding the Election Commission. The party argued that the survey itself reflects voter trust in democratic institutions, including the polling process and voting technology.
BJP spokespersons pointed out that a large majority of respondents in the survey expressed faith in EVMs and believed that elections are conducted in a free and fair manner. The data also suggested that public confidence in voting machines has increased compared to earlier years, showing growing acceptance of the system.
Senior BJP leader and Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition R Ashoka said the survey exposes what he described as political inconsistency within the Congress. He accused the party of questioning institutions only after electoral losses while accepting the same system when results are favourable.
The survey, conducted across more than 100 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka, gathered responses from over 5,000 citizens. It found that an overwhelming number of voters felt their names were correctly included in the electoral rolls and expressed satisfaction with the transparency of the voting process.
The findings have added a new dimension to the ongoing national debate on election credibility, with the BJP asserting that the data produced by a Congress-ruled state undercuts the party’s own narrative on EVMs and electoral fairness.
