The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to return to power in Delhi after nearly three decades, securing a decisive victory in the 2025 Assembly elections. As per the Election Commission trends, the BJP is leading in 48 out of the 70 assembly seats, marking the end of the Aam Aadmi Party's decade-long rule. However, the party has not yet announced its chief ministerial candidate, sparking intense speculation over who will take the top post.

Arvind Kejriwal, who was aiming for a comeback as Delhi’s chief minister after resigning last year, suffered a major setback after losing the New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma by 4,089 votes. Verma, the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, played a crucial role in the BJP’s campaign, leading an aggressive campaign against the AAP government.

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva has confirmed that the chief ministerial decision will be made by the party’s central leadership. Among the key contenders for the top post, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma is emerging as a strong candidate. He secured 30,088 votes in the election and has been an influential leader in Delhi politics. Having won the West Delhi parliamentary seat in 2014 and again in 2019, Verma gained prominence for his campaign, "Remove Kejriwal, Save the Nation," which targeted AAP’s governance.

Another potential candidate for the CM position is Vijender Gupta, who secured a third consecutive victory from Rohini by winning 70,365 votes. Gupta, a seasoned politician, has been a key BJP leader in Delhi since 2015 and previously served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. An alumnus of Shri Ram College of Commerce, he began his political career in 1980 and has held multiple key positions, including serving as the BJP Delhi secretary.

Harish Khurana is also in the race for the chief ministerial post after his successful electoral debut from Moti Nagar. He won by 57,565 votes, leading with a margin of 11,657 votes. Khurana, son of former Delhi chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, has a strong political background and has been active in BJP’s Delhi unit, previously serving as the convenor of the party’s public relations cell.

Apart from these frontrunners, former Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay, Dalit leader Dushyant Gautam, and BJP candidate Majinder Singh Sirsa are also being considered as potential candidates for the chief minister’s post. With BJP's historic victory, all eyes are now on the party’s leadership to decide who will lead Delhi in the coming years.
