In a surprising turn of events in the Pune Porsche accident case, Dr. Vinayak Kale, the dean of Sassoon General Hospital, was sent on compulsory leave on Wednesday. This came just hours after he revealed that he appointed Dr. Ajay Taware as the medical superintendent based on a recommendation by Maharashtra's medical education minister, Hasan Mushrif.

Earlier this month, two techies in Pune died after being hit by a Porsche Taycan driven by a 17-year-old boy, who was allegedly drunk at the time. Dr. Taware and another doctor at the Pune hospital are accused of trying to cover up the accident by tampering with the minor?s blood samples. Both doctors, along with an employee named Atul Ghatkamble, have been arrested and suspended by the Maharashtra government.

Hasan Mushrif, from the Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar, admitted that Dr. Taware's appointment was based on a letter submitted by the party's MLA, Sunil Tingare. Mushrif claimed he merely approved the recommendation but added that the dean should have alerted the government about Dr. Taware?s reputation.

Dr. Kale acknowledged issuing an executive order for Taware's appointment, stating he was just following the minister's order.

The two doctors and the hospital employee allegedly swapped the minor?s blood samples. Prosecutors told a local court that the doctors accepted a bribe to save the boy. Hours after the accident, the juvenile was initially released on bail with the condition that he write an essay on road safety. However, after nationwide outrage, he was detained and sent to a reform home.

The police also arrested the boy's father for letting him drive without a license and his grandfather for trying to coerce their driver into taking the blame for the accident. Authorities claim to have CCTV footage showing the teenager driving after drinking at two bars. The bar owners have been arrested for serving alcohol to the minor.
