The Congress leadership moved quickly to quell speculation of internal discord after senior leader Digvijaya Singh’s remarks drew public attention. Congress MP Rajiv Shukla on Monday firmly rejected suggestions of any rift within the party, asserting that the organisation remains united and focused on strengthening its political base nationwide.
Speaking to the media, Shukla said isolated statements are often taken out of context and amplified unnecessarily. He stressed that the party’s collective resolve was clearly visible during the Congress Foundation Day celebrations, where leaders across generations stood together with a common objective.
“There is complete unity in the Congress. Everyone is together, as seen today. Sometimes one statement is misread and blown out of proportion by the media. That does not reflect the party’s reality,” Shukla said, seeking to draw a line under the controversy.
The clarification comes after Digvijaya Singh shared comments related to an old photograph linked to the RSS, triggering political debate and reactions from rival parties. While the post sparked discussion both within and outside Congress circles, party leaders have maintained that personal observations should not be mistaken for ideological shifts.
Shukla emphasised that the Congress remains firmly committed to its core values and long-standing ideological positions. He added that the focus should now be on organisational rebuilding, public outreach, and preparing the party cadre for upcoming electoral challenges.
“On Foundation Day, our resolve should be to work together across the country and strengthen the Congress at every level,” he said, reiterating that unity remains the party’s biggest strength.
