In a significant political development ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the Congress has formally announced an alliance with Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA). The tie-up is being projected as a strategic move to consolidate anti-BJP votes and present a united alternative in Mumbai’s fiercely contested civic battle.
Senior leaders from both parties confirmed that the alliance will jointly contest the BMC polls, with a focus on issues such as civic misgovernance, rising inequality, housing, unemployment, and the marginalisation of Dalits, minorities, and the urban poor. While detailed seat-sharing arrangements are expected to be finalised soon, leaders indicated that negotiations are progressing in a “positive and cooperative” atmosphere.
