Congress Seeks Voter Lists, Polling Footage From EC Ahead Of Meeting On Maharashtra Election Concerns

na

The Congress party has formally responded to the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) recent letter addressed to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, expressing its readiness for a meeting to discuss concerns related to the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections. In its reply, the party reiterated its long-standing demand for greater transparency and access to crucial electoral data.

In the letter sent to the ECI, Congress has requested a machine-readable, digital copy of the Maharashtra voter list along with video footage from polling day in both Maharashtra and Haryana. The party has asked that these materials be provided within a week.

"This has been a long-standing request that should be easy for the EC to comply with," the letter states. "The Congress party leadership will be happy to meet with the EC soon after we have received these. In that meeting, we will even present our analysis findings to you."

The move comes days after Rahul Gandhi, in his capacity as the newly appointed Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, raised concerns about alleged irregularities during the 2024 Vidhan Sabha elections in Maharashtra, demanding electoral reforms and institutional accountability.

Congress say the party has prepared a data-driven analysis of alleged discrepancies and intends to present it directly to the Election Commission once their requested information is shared.
