A spine-chilling murder has rocked the quiet locality of Dhaniv Baug in Nalasopara East, where a woman, in a horrifying act of betrayal, allegedly killed her husband and buried his body beneath the floor of their home — all with the help of her lover and possibly a third accomplice. The brutal crime has sent shockwaves across the neighbourhood.

The victim, 32-year-old Vijay Chauhan, a daily wage worker, was reported missing nearly two weeks ago. He lived in Rashid Compound, Om Sai Welfare Society, with his wife Chaman Devi and their three-year-old daughter. When questioned by neighbours and relatives, Chaman Devi claimed he had simply "left for work." However, doubts grew when she vanished two days ago along with a 20-year-old neighbour, Monu Sharma, who is suspected to be her lover.

The horrifying truth came to light on Monday, when Vijay’s brothers, worried after days of no contact, visited his house. Inside, they were immediately struck by the sight of fresh floor tiles in one section of the room. Trusting their instincts, they pried open the tiles and uncovered a piece of cloth — and then, the unmistakable stench of death.

They alerted Pelhar Police, who arrived at the scene and sealed off the house. Officials then summoned the local tehsildar for formal excavation, but due to his absence, the digging began only around 5 pm. Within an hour, the decomposed body of Vijay Chauhan was exhumed from beneath the floor, wrapped in a sheet and emitting a foul odour — confirming everyone's worst fears.

"We suspect the murder was premeditated. The wife, her lover, and possibly another person might have subdued and killed the victim before hiding his body under a layer of concrete tiles," a senior officer from Pelhar Police Station said. Police are now conducting raids to locate Chaman Devi and Monu Sharma, both of whom are on the run.
