Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday strongly criticised Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, over her reported comments on the India-Pakistan situation, calling them “irresponsible” and “detached from reality.”

Gupta, addressing reporters, responded sharply to Atishi’s alleged suggestion that a peaceful understanding between India and Pakistan should be pursued amid recent cross-border tensions.

"It is very easy to say anything in a closed air-conditioned room watching television," Gupta said, taking a direct dig at Atishi. "Looking after 140 crore people and taking the right decision can be done only by the person whose job it is to do so."

Reiterating the nation’s unwavering faith in its armed forces, Gupta asserted that “no one has the right to raise questions on the Army.” She emphasised that strategic and national security decisions are the domain of elected leaders and defence experts, not politicians offering opinions from the sidelines.

While Atishi’s remarks have not yet been officially clarified by AAP, they sparked sharp political backlash and reignited debates around civilian commentary on military matters.

Gupta added that the Indian Army has time and again proved its capability and commitment, and the nation must stand united behind it. “We may have political differences, but on issues of national security, there should be no ambiguity or divisiveness,” she said.
