As Delhi heads to the polls for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi minister Atishi has accused Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena of instructing Delhi Police to impede voting in areas with strong support for the I.N.D.I.A bloc.
In a post on social media platform X, Atishi alleged, "Information has been received that today @LtGovDelhi has ordered Delhi Police to slow down the voting in those areas where there are a large number of INDIA alliance voters so that people face difficulty in casting their votes."
She added, "Any such attempt by the administration to make the BJP win is illegal, undemocratic, and unconstitutional. And I hope the Election Commission will take cognizance of this, and stop any such attempt."
Atishi's accusations prompted a reaction from AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who expressed his concern, stating, "This is shocking. EC should ensure smooth voting in Delhi."
In response to these allegations, LG VK Saxena issued a statement condemning Atishi's remarks. "I have taken a stern view of this unwarranted & false statement on the eve of election against a constitutional authority by a Minister, endorsed by you," Saxena said. "This impropriety is unacceptable and these typically absurd and concocted claims are a deliberate design to subvert democracy by misleading voters. Strict action will be taken."
