Mumbai witnessed a powerful display of patriotism on Monday as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unfurled the national flag at Shivaji Park in Dadar during the state-level celebrations of the 77th Republic Day. The historic venue was filled with pride and discipline as senior government officials, police personnel and citizens gathered under tight security to mark the occasion.
After the flag hoisting, Fadnavis extended warm Republic Day greetings to the people of Maharashtra and the nation. He said the day stands as a reminder of the strength of India’s Republic and the vision of those who framed the Constitution. Paying homage to Dr B R Ambedkar and members of the Constituent Assembly, he said India was gifted a Constitution that continues to protect democracy, equality and justice.
The Chief Minister highlighted India’s fast-growing global stature, stating that the country is steadily advancing towards becoming one of the world’s top economies. He said this progress is rooted in the strong foundation of democracy and constitutional values, adding that ideals such as freedom, equality and fraternity have always been part of India’s civilisational ethos.
Speaking about Maharashtra, Fadnavis said the state remains a driving force behind India’s development. He pointed to major investment commitments secured recently, saying they will generate jobs and accelerate economic growth. He asserted that Maharashtra will continue to move forward with determination and speed.
Fadnavis also spoke about the government’s focus on farmers and rural development. He said extensive support has been provided to the farming community and that long-term plans are underway to make Maharashtra drought-free through water management and river-linking initiatives. Infrastructure projects such as the Samruddhi Expressway and the upcoming Shaktipeeth Highway were highlighted as key contributors to the state’s progress.
He further noted Maharashtra’s achievements in renewable energy, particularly in expanding solar-powered agricultural pumps, and reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive welfare through schemes aimed at women and farmers.
