The Election Commission (EC) has issued a formal notice to Muzaffarpur Mayor and senior BJP leader Nirmala Devi over serious allegations of possessing two separate voter ID cards in the same assembly constituency. The poll body has directed her to submit a written explanation by August 16.

The controversy erupted earlier in the day when RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav accused Nirmala Devi of “blatant electoral fraud,” claiming she holds “not one, but two voter IDs”. Yadav alleged that such acts undermine free and fair elections, calling it part of a broader pattern of malpractice.

According to an EC official, the notice was served following a complaint lodged with the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for Muzaffarpur Assembly constituency. In the letter, the ERO has asked Nirmala Devi to clarify her position and respond to the charges of violating electoral laws.
