Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday made serious allegations of electoral fraud in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, calling the process a “match-fixing” exercise orchestrated by the BJP. In a detailed post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi laid out what he claimed was a step-by-step conspiracy to manipulate the election outcome.
"The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election was a blueprint of rigging in democracy," Gandhi wrote in Hindi, adding that “the entire game of stealing the election” had been carefully planned.
He outlined five key steps allegedly followed to rig the election:
Step 1: Control over the panel that appoints the Election Commission
Step 2: Insertion of fake voters in the electoral rolls
Step 3: Artificially inflating voter turnout figures
Step 4: Targeted bogus voting in BJP-favored constituencies
Step 5: Concealing or destroying evidence
"It’s not hard to understand why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra,” Gandhi said, suggesting that the manipulation was carried out in constituencies where the BJP faced electoral setbacks.
He likened the alleged fraud to match-fixing in cricket, warning that while the side committing the fraud may technically win, it severely weakens democratic institutions and erodes public trust in election outcomes.
"Match-fixed elections are poison for democracy," he stated, urging citizens to look at the evidence themselves, understand the truth, and demand accountability.
Gandhi also warned that the alleged Maharashtra model may soon be repeated in Bihar and other states, wherever BJP fears defeat.
