Amid ongoing speculation, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed on Thursday that she will be attending Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding in Mumbai on July 12. This high-profile event is set to be one of the most talked-about weddings of the year, drawing significant attention from various quarters.
At Kolkata Airport, Mamata Banerjee shared with the press that she initially did not plan to attend the wedding. However, persistent requests from the Ambani family convinced her to make the trip. “I might not have gone (to attend Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding), but all of the family members from Nita ji to Mukesh ji, everyone is requesting me to attend the wedding again and again. That is why I am going,” Mamata told PTI.
In addition to attending the wedding, Mamata Banerjee will use this opportunity to engage in important political discussions. She plans to meet with INDIA bloc leaders Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai to strategize on how the Opposition can be more effective in countering the BJP’s policies during the upcoming budget session of Parliament, scheduled from July 22 to August 12. “I will also meet (NCP president) Sharad (Pawar) ji there and (Shiv Sena (UBT)) Uddhav Thackeray,” she confirmed.
According to reports, Mamata Banerjee is expected to return to Kolkata on July 13. While it remains uncertain whether other top Congress leaders will be in Mumbai for the wedding, there is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might attend.
The wedding festivities for Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are set to be grand affairs, spanning several days. The main wedding ceremony will take place on July 12, followed by celebratory events on July 13 and 14. The guest list is expected to include international celebrities and Bollywood superstars, ensuring a star-studded event.

On Tuesday, the Ambani family hosted a vibrant ‘haldi’ ceremony at their iconic residence, Antilia, in Mumbai. This lavish event was attended by close family members and Bollywood personalities, including Anant’s uncle, businessman Anil Ambani, and his wife, former actress Tina Ambani.
The couple also participated in a Grah Shanti Puja ceremony on Sunday, with singer Nikita Waghela sharing glimpses of the serene event on Instagram. These pre-wedding rituals were meticulously planned, adhering to traditional Hindu Vedic customs, and set the tone for the upcoming celebrations.
The main ceremonies will commence on Friday, July 12, with the auspicious Shubh Vivah (wedding function), where guests are encouraged to embrace traditional Indian attire. The festivities will continue on Saturday, July 13, with Shubh Aashirwad, and culminate on Sunday, July 14, with Mangal Utsav, the wedding reception.
Earlier this year, the couple hosted a series of pre-wedding events in Jamnagar, attracting a star-studded guest list from around the globe. The Sangeet Ceremony on July 5 featured a performance by global pop sensation Justin Bieber, adding to the grandeur of the celebrations.
