In a pointed attack on National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti questioned his silence on the plight of Kashmiri prisoners lodged in jails outside the Union Territory while frequently raising the issue of statehood.

Speaking to reporters, Mehbooba Mufti remarked, “I have never heard CM Omar Abdullah saying that he spoke to the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister about our people who are lodged in jails outside of J&K. He always says he can't talk about matters which are subjudice, then isn't the matter of statehood which he keeps talking about also subjudice?”

The former chief minister’s remarks come amid ongoing political sparring between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) over who better represents the aspirations of Jammu and Kashmir’s people after the abrogation of Article 370.
