Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday underscored the state government’s commitment to safeguarding women's rights under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), asserting that clear intent and public support make any reform achievable.

Speaking at a workshop organized for the effective implementation of the UCC, CM Dhami said, “We have made provision for everyone's safety… After registering a live-in relationship, if there is any dispute in the relationship, then the female partner will have the right to get alimony legally.”

He emphasized that the UCC was not merely a legal change, but a step toward societal reform grounded in equality and justice. “We have once again proved that if the intention is clear and public sentiment is with us, then no change is impossible,” Dhami added.

The Uttarakhand government became the first in the country to notify a Uniform Civil Code after passing the legislation earlier this year. The UCC mandates the registration of live-in relationships and ensures legal safeguards for women, particularly in matters of inheritance, marriage, divorce, and maintenance.
