In a decisive move reflecting escalating diplomatic tensions, the Indian government has imposed an immediate and comprehensive ban on the import and transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan. The directive applies to all items, regardless of whether they are freely importable or otherwise permitted under existing trade regulations.

An official notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry states, “Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan, whether or not freely importable or otherwise permitted, shall be prohibited with immediate effect.”

The measure signals a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations, which have been under strain following recent cross-border terror incidents. Officials said the move is aimed at sending a clear message about India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and its sponsors.
