Indian Embassy Urges Nationals To Exit Iran As Protests Intensify, MEA Issues Travel Warning

Amid escalating protests and a rapidly changing security situation in Iran, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a renewed and urgent advisory for Indian citizens currently in the country. Indians have been advised to leave Iran at the earliest using all available transport options, including commercial flights.

The advisory follows earlier guidance issued by the Government of India on January 5, 2025. Highlighting growing concerns, the embassy stated:

"In continuation of the advisory issued by the Government of India on 5 January 2025, and in view of the evolving situation in Iran, Indian nationals who are currently in Iran (students, pilgrims, business persons and tourists) are advised to leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights."

Reiterating safety precautions, the embassy cautioned Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) to remain vigilant and avoid sensitive areas.

"It is reiterated that all Indian citizens and PIOs should exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments."

The advisory also stressed the importance of keeping essential documents ready at all times.

"All Indian nationals in Iran are requested to also have their travel and immigration documents, including passports and IDs, readily available with them. They are requested to contact the Indian Embassy for any assistance in this regard."

Soon after the embassy’s advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued a fresh statement, discouraging travel to Iran until further notice.
