As COVID-19 cases begin to surface once again, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday assured citizens that the situation is under control but emphasized the need for vigilance and preparedness across the healthcare system.

"Currently, around 60 cases have been reported," said the CM following a high-level review meeting. "Yesterday, I met with the Health Department, the Medical Education Department, and Task Force officers. We must be prepared for all situations."

Reiterating the importance of readiness without sparking unnecessary panic, Siddaramaiah directed that all hospital wards across the state be kept on standby. “Although it’s not a severe variant, we must still treat the situation seriously,” he said, indicating that the government is not taking any chances, especially after lessons learned during previous COVID-19 waves.

Highlighting protection measures for vulnerable groups, the CM advised caution for senior citizens and individuals with co-morbidities. “People with existing illnesses and the elderly should wear masks. However, wearing masks is not mandatory,” he clarified, signaling a balanced approach without imposing strict restrictions on the general population.

Siddaramaiah also confirmed that the Union government has not issued any new COVID-19 guidelines so far. “The central government has not issued any new guidelines yet,” he stated, adding that the state would continue to monitor the situation closely and act based on expert recommendations.
