Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday renewed his demand for the inclusion of Delhi's Jat community in the Centre's Other Backward Classes (OBC) list, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to fulfill its promises to the community.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal pointed out that while Jats in Delhi are included in the city's OBC list, they are still excluded from the Centre?s OBC list, denying them access to critical opportunities. He noted that Jats from Rajasthan can avail themselves of benefits like college admissions in Delhi University, jobs in AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital, and other central government organizations. However, the Jats of Delhi continue to be excluded from these benefits.
?The Jats here are included in Delhi's OBC list but not in the Centre's list. Jats from Rajasthan can get admissions in Delhi University and its colleges, jobs in AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital and all the central government organisations but not the Jats of Delhi,? Kejriwal said, highlighting the disparity.
The AAP leader further stated that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had made public promises to the Jat community in Delhi, assuring them OBC reservation at the central level. However, these promises, according to Kejriwal, remain unfulfilled.
?I want to ask Modi, Shah and other BJP leaders, when will they include Delhi's Jats in the Centre's OBC list?? Kejriwal questioned during the press briefing.
In his post on social media platform X, Kejriwal also mentioned that a delegation of Jat leaders who had recently met him expressed their anger over what they perceived as being "betrayed" by the BJP for the past decade, claiming that the party had failed to deliver on its promise of reservation for the community. Kejriwal reiterated that AAP supports the ?justified demand? of the Jat community.
