Tensions flared in Mira Road as Maharashtra Minister Pratap Sarnaik strongly opposed the police’s decision to deny permission for a planned Marathi Morcha rally. The rally was reportedly organized by the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti and several local groups.
Speaking to the media, Sarnaik expressed his anger over the police refusal and declared his intention to attend the protest despite the restrictions. “The Marathi Ekikaran Samiti and several other organizations had applied for the rally, but were denied permission. I am going—if the police dare, let them arrest me,” Sarnaik stated defiantly.
The protest was reportedly aimed at highlighting issues related to Marathi identity and rights in the Mira-Bhayandar region. The police have cited concerns over law and order as the reason for denying the permission.
