Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday strongly dismissed Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of “vote theft” against the BJP, calling him a “serial liar.”
Speaking to reporters, Fadnavis said, “I have said it earlier also that Rahul Gandhi is a serial liar. He has been spreading lies relentlessly. It pains me to see that even some leaders from Maharashtra have suddenly realised that Rahul Gandhi is speaking the truth.”
The CM added that opposition leaders’ claims are merely attempts to convince themselves. “A fort built on lies crashes. Unless they realise that to win the votes of people, one has to go to the people and earn their trust, their lies are only meant to convince themselves,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi had alleged that votes were stolen in states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana, and claimed similar attempts could take place in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. Opposition parties such as the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray have also raised concerns about “vote theft” and urged their party workers to verify electoral rolls for bogus voters.
Fadnavis countered that such allegations are aimed at providing solace to opposition workers for anticipated poll defeats rather than addressing their own political shortcomings.
