The Congress party is set to undertake an in-depth review of its poor performance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) chief Nana Patole announced on Sunday that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) would lead the analysis to identify missteps and devise a strategy for the future.

The Congress, a key member of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), contested 101 seats but secured only 16, a significant decline in its political influence. The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious with a landslide, leaving the MVA far behind.

Nana Patole, who retained his Sakoli seat by a narrow margin of just 208 votes, called the election outcome unexpected. Reflecting on the results, Patole said, "The people of Maharashtra are discussing how the Mahayuti achieved such a massive win. While we refrain from commenting on EVMs, it is crucial to analyze how it happened and take necessary steps accordingly."

Patole emphasized the Congress's focus on holding the newly-formed Mahayuti government accountable for its promises, including 24-hour electricity for farmers, increased minimum support prices (MSPs) for key crops like soybeans and cotton, and bonuses for paddy cultivators. He attributed the Mahayuti's success partly to its Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme and urged the government to deliver on these commitments swiftly.

The Congress leader also highlighted the importance of ensuring job creation for youth and fighting corruption under the new administration. He reiterated the party's commitment to serving as a vigilant opposition and addressing the concerns of Maharashtra's citizens in the evolving political landscape.
