New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that no development work has been carried out in the capital’s mandis (wholesale markets) for over a decade, turning them into “hubs of corruption.”
During her visit to one of the city’s major mandis on Thursday, Gupta said, “The condition of all the mandis in Delhi is so bad as no work has been done in these mandis in the last 10-15 years. There are so many problems regarding cleanliness, roads, security systems here, while hundreds of people are working here. No development work has been done here, Aam Aadmi Party made it a hub of corruption.”
She added that a comprehensive plan is being prepared to modernise and renovate the mandis, with a special focus on infrastructure, security, and hygiene. “Today we are visiting it, and a plan will be made to modernise it... The system will be renovated by strengthening security...” she stated.
Gupta’s remarks highlight her administration’s intent to overhaul the long-neglected mandi infrastructure, aiming to restore public trust and ensure better conditions for the large number of vendors and buyers who rely on these markets daily.
Meanwhile, commenting on the growing boycott of Turkey and Azerbaijan by Indian tourists and businesses amid strained diplomatic sentiments, CM Gupta echoed the national mood of solidarity. “If any country gets involved in any way against India, the people of India will boycott it in every way... India is united against the supporters of terrorism...” she declared.
Her comments come in the backdrop of reports suggesting growing public resentment in India against countries perceived as sympathetic to anti-India narratives or terror-related entities.
