Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, recently released on bail from Tihar Jail, visited Raj Ghat today to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Sisodia’s release marks the end of a 17-month detention related to the Delhi Excise Policy case.
The Supreme Court granted Sisodia bail on Friday evening, leading to his immediate release from Tihar Jail. Upon his release, Sisodia took to social media, sharing a smiling selfie with his wife while enjoying a cup of tea, captioned: “First morning tea of freedom… after 17 months!”
Following his release, Sisodia paid a visit to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet with family members. His release comes after a prolonged legal battle, which saw Sisodia initially arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26, 2023, followed by an arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March 2023. Despite several bail applications, both the trial court and the Delhi High Court had previously dismissed his requests.
The visit to Raj Ghat today was a significant moment for Sisodia, symbolizing a fresh start after a period of intense legal scrutiny and confinement. The presence of fellow AAP leaders at the tribute underscores the party’s support and solidarity during this challenging period for Sisodia.
Sisodia’s return to the public eye is expected to reinvigorate the AAP’s political activities and bring renewed focus to his contributions and future roles within the party.
