In a strongly worded statement, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has demanded immediate and stringent action against BJP MLA Rajesh Chaudhary for his recent derogatory comments. The BSP leader, addressing the media on Saturday, condemned Chaudhary?s remarks, in which he labeled her as the "most corrupt Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh."
Mayawati took to X (formerly Twitter) to express her discontent, saying, "The BJP should take strict action against him, and if he is mentally ill, then he should be treated. Otherwise, it would not be wrong to say that there is a conspiracy by the BJP behind this." Her comments reflect a growing frustration with the political attacks and a call for accountability within the BJP.
The BSP chief accused Chaudhary of attempting to gain publicity by making unfounded statements about her. She added, "The party feels that this BJP MLA is no longer respected within the BJP. That is why he wants to come into the limelight by making baseless statements about the BSP chief, which is very unfortunate."
Mayawati also expressed gratitude towards Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav for supporting her stance. Yadav had criticized Chaudhary?s remarks and suggested that a defamation case should be filed against him. In his statement, Yadav condemned the BJP MLA?s comments, emphasizing that, "Political differences have their place, but no one has the right to tarnish her dignity as a woman."
Yadav further criticized the BJP for its handling of the situation, stating, "The disrespectful remarks made by the BJP legislator towards Mayawati reflect the deep-seated bitterness that BJP members harbor towards women, especially those from marginalized and oppressed communities." He accused the BJP of undermining the dignity of women by sheltering such MLAs.
Earlier on Friday, BJP MLA Chaudhary, representing Mathura district's Mant area, had made headlines for his controversial statements. He had claimed, "There is no doubt that Mayawati has been the chief minister of UP four times, and it was us (BJP) who made her the chief minister for the first time. We made that mistake." He further described her as the most corrupt chief minister Uttar Pradesh has ever had.
In response to the fallout, SP chief Yadav suggested legal action against Chaudhary, urging that his remarks not only defamed Mayawati but also insulted public opinion and democracy. This incident has sparked a broader debate on the treatment of women in politics and the responsibilities of political representatives.
