Mohan Bhagwat’s ‘Superman To God’ Comment Sparks Congress Criticism: ‘Self-Proclaimed Non-Biological PM’

Bhagwat's comments on the nature of progress and self-improvement have thus sparked a political debate, intertwining philosophical musings with sharp political jabs

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent comments on personal and societal development have ignited a fresh political controversy. Speaking at a village-level workers meeting organized by Vikas Bharti on Thursday, Bhagwat explored the concept of continuous self-improvement, stating that both internal and external progress are perpetual.

“There is no end to progress,” Bhagwat remarked. “A man may strive to become a Superman, then a Dev, and eventually Bhagwan. Both internal and external developments are endless. This is why we should always be at ‘Asamadhan’ (without solution) slightly. A lot has been done, but still, a lot is left.” He emphasized that even after substantial achievements, there is always more to accomplish.

The RSS chief’s comments were part of a broader discourse on the need for continuous development and self-betterment. Bhagwat stressed that a dedicated worker should maintain a mindset of persistent effort, acknowledging that while much has been achieved, there is always scope for further progress.

However, these remarks quickly became a flashpoint for political contention. Congress leaders seized the opportunity to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi, using Bhagwat’s statements as a platform to criticize the Prime Minister’s earlier self-referential claims. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter, making a pointed reference to Modi’s earlier assertion that “God had sent him” to lead.

“I am sure the self-proclaimed non-biological Prime Minister must have got the news of this latest Agni missile fired from Nagpur targeting Lok Kalyan Marg in Jharkhand,” Ramesh tweeted, drawing a sharp connection between Bhagwat’s comments and Modi’s earlier statements. The tweet implied that Modi’s claims of divine selection were being indirectly criticized through Bhagwat’s remarks.

The reference to the Agni missile, which is a nod to India’s defense capabilities and strategic posture, was used metaphorically to highlight the perceived disconnect between Modi’s self-image and the realities of his governance. Notably, the RSS headquarters is based in Nagpur, while the Lok Kalyan Marg is Modi’s official residence, creating a symbolic link between the two in Ramesh’s critique.

Bhagwat’s comments on the nature of progress and self-improvement have thus sparked a political debate, intertwining philosophical musings with sharp political jabs. As the discourse unfolds, it underscores the complex interplay between ideology, politics, and personal ambitions in India’s dynamic political landscape.
