The Mumbai Police has issued a detailed traffic advisory for Thursday, December 5, in light of the swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra?s new Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and two Deputy Chief Ministers. The event, scheduled to take place at 5:30 PM at Azad Maidan, will see Fadnavis assume office alongside NCP leader Ajit Pawar and outgoing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of the Shiv Sena. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be among the high-profile attendees at the ceremony.

To ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize inconvenience to the public, the advisory will remain in effect from 12 PM until the event concludes. Citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize public transport, including trains and local services, as no parking facilities are available at Azad Maidan.

Key routes in South Mumbai will see traffic restrictions and diversions during the event. The police have also provided alternative routes for commuters to avoid affected areas:

  • Mahapalika Marg: Traffic between CSMT Junction and Vasudev Balawant Phadake Chowk (Metro Junction) will be prohibited in both directions. Commuters can use LT Marg, Chakala Junction, DN Road, and CSMT Junction as alternatives.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Marg: Movement will be restricted between Chafekar Bandhu Chowk (OCS Junction) and Vasudev Balawant Phadake Chowk. Optional routes include LT Marg, Chakala Junction, and DN Road.
  • Hajarimal Somani Marg: Traffic between Chafekar Bandhu Chowk and CSMT Junction will be restricted. Travelers can take alternate routes via Hutatma Chowk, Kalaghoda, and Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg.
  • Meghdoot Bridge (Princess Street Bridge): Southbound traffic from NS Road and Coastal Road toward Shyamaldas Gandhi Junction will be prohibited. NS Road will serve as the alternate route.
  • Rambhau Salgaonkar Road: The stretch from Indu Clinic Junction (Sayyed Jamadar Chowk) to Volga Chowk will be open for two-way traffic between 12 PM and 8 PM.

The police have urged the public to plan their travel accordingly and avoid restricted areas during the designated hours. With significant security arrangements, including the deployment of over 4,000 personnel, the event is expected to be a grand affair, attracting thousands of attendees, including dignitaries and political leaders from across the country.
