'One Side Is Repaired, The Other Still Broken': Eknath Shinde Pulls Up MBMC Commissioner As Road Row Sparks Public Outrage

A video of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde sharply criticising Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma over patchy road repairs has exploded across social media, intensifying public anger over the city’s long-pending pothole crisis.

Shinde was in Mira-Bhayandar on Monday to inaugurate the newly built Balasaheb Thackeray Art Gallery, an event for which the civic body had carried out hurried cleaning and repair work around the venue. Despite the rushed preparations, the Deputy CM immediately noticed poorly finished patches and potholes that remained untouched.

The viral clip shows Shinde confronting the Commissioner in a visibly stern tone, questioning why the repair work had been done partially and with substandard finishing.

“One side is repaired and the other is still full of potholes… even the repaired patches are uneven,” Shinde is heard pointing out, demanding to know why the civic body failed to complete the job properly.

Sharma attempted to justify the situation, saying repair work was in progress across several stretches. But Shinde cut him short, stressing that incomplete fixes were unacceptable—especially when motorists continue to face daily hazards due to uneven roads.

The exchange, recorded by cameras set up for his arrival, quickly reached the internet and triggered a wave of reactions. Residents, who have long complained about Mira-Bhayandar’s deteriorating roads, said the video reflected their everyday frustration.

Locals pointed out that despite repeated complaints, potholes remain a recurring issue because repair work is often done in haste or without proper quality checks—problems made worse after the monsoon and stalled development projects.

While MBMC claims that pothole-filling drives have been underway for weeks, large stretches of key roads continue to remain uneven, poorly levelled, or severely damaged.
