In a fiery intervention during the Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav launched a fierce critique of the Modi government’s handling of the Pahalgam terror attack, questioning both its response and its foreign policy choices.
Calling the recent ceasefire announcement “shocking,” Yadav suggested it reflected deeper ties between the Indian government and international allies, even hinting at foreign influence. “We thought the government would announce the ceasefire, but the government asked its friend — Donald Trump — to announce it,” he remarked, drawing murmurs and reactions across party lines.
Yadav questioned the need for Operation Sindoor in the first place, labelling it a “sign of failure” rather than triumph. “The fact that such an operation became necessary proves that our system failed to prevent the Pahalgam attack,” he stated. He urged the Centre to accept responsibility and disclose how such a devastating breach in security occurred.
“Pahalgam victims have one question: why weren’t we protected?” he asked, calling for transparency and a direct answer from the highest offices in government. “What went wrong in our intelligence system? Who was responsible for this lapse?” he pressed.
The SP leader also warned against reducing the debate to a singular narrative around Pakistan, instead pointing fingers at a bigger threat. “India should stay alert from Pakistan and its partner China,” he said. “The real threat is not just Pakistan — it is China. China is stealing our land, building roads in disputed areas, and expanding its grip on our economy.”
In a moment of poetic criticism, Yadav took a swipe at the BJP’s foreign policy-driven politics. “Main duniya ko manane mein laga hoon, mera ghar mujhse rootha ja raha hai,” he recited, accusing the government of ignoring domestic safety while focusing on global image-building.
