Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday marked a historic milestone for Mumbai’s commuters and workforce by inaugurating the final stretch of the Mumbai Metro Line 3, launching the integrated “Mumbai One” transport app, and flagging off Maharashtra’s new Short-Term Employability Program (STEP).

Speaking at the event, PM Modi described the day as “a transformative moment for Maharashtra,” highlighting how these projects would reshape urban connectivity, digital integration, and youth employment across the state.

The newly inaugurated Metro Line 3 Phase 2B connects Worli (Acharya Atre Chowk) to Cuffe Parade, completing the 33.5-km fully underground corridor from Aarey to Cuffe Parade. Featuring 11 new stations, the stretch links heritage precincts, business hubs, and densely populated neighborhoods. The complete corridor is set to become operational on October 9 after receiving safety clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.

The Mumbai One app brings together 11 transport networks—including metro lines 1, 2A, 3, and 7, the monorail, suburban rail, and municipal bus services from Thane, Mira-Bhayander, Kalyan-Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai—under one digital platform. The app allows users to plan journeys, purchase multimodal tickets, view real-time updates, explore nearby attractions, and access emergency assistance through an SOS feature.

Simultaneously, the Prime Minister virtually inaugurated the STEP program—a skill development initiative designed to connect Maharashtra’s youth with emerging industry needs. Managed by the Department of Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation, the program will launch 2,500 training batches across cutting-edge sectors like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Electric Vehicles (EV), solar energy, and additive manufacturing. Notably, 364 batches will be exclusively for women.

The program will be implemented across 400 government ITIs and 150 technical high schools, aiming to empower the next generation of skilled professionals in Maharashtra.

With the inauguration of the fully underground Metro Line 3, the Mumbai One mobility app, and the STEP initiative, PM Modi underscored the government’s commitment to building a modern, connected, and skilled India—one that prioritizes ease of living and economic growth.
