Buoyed by exit poll predictions of a landslide victory, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is reported to be planning a massive celebratory "political event" on the same day as the new government's swearing-in ceremony, which could be held as early as June 9th.
According to sources cited by The Indian Express, the high-decibel event is tentatively scheduled at either Kartavya Path or Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, with a theme highlighting "India's Cultural Heritage".
The report indicates that the BJP's event could feature a grand light and sound show, with around 8,000 to 10,000 attendees including foreign government representatives.
While the schedule is yet to be finalized, a senior government official told the newspaper that both the political event and swearing-in may take place on June 9th itself.
Preparations seem to be underway, with the President's Secretariat already issuing a tender on May 28th for "supplying decorative indoor and ornamental plants" for the swearing-in ceremony estimated to cost around Rs 21.97 lakh.
The BJP's plans for massive celebrations appear premised on exit poll projections that have predicted a resounding mandate for the party toComfortably cross the 300-seat mark and even achieve its target of winning 400 seats.
While the opposition I.N.D.I.A alliance has raised doubts over the exit polls and vowed to question the counting process, the ruling dispensation seems confident of retaining power at the Centre.
