Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a sharp attack on the Modi government on Monday following a tragic incident in Maharashtra’s Thane district, where at least four passengers died and six were injured after falling off an overcrowded local train.

In a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter), Gandhi said, “While the Modi government is celebrating 11 years of 'service', the reality of the country is reflected in the tragic news coming from Mumbai – several people died after falling from a train.” He blamed the Centre for the deteriorating state of the Indian Railways, stating that it has now become a “symbol of insecurity, congestion and chaos.”

The fatal mishap occurred between Diva and Kopar stations as a train bound for Kasara was overcrowded during the morning rush. According to railway officials, the accident may have happened when the backpacks of passengers hanging from the footboards of two passing trains brushed against each other, causing people to lose balance and fall.

Gandhi didn’t hold back in his criticism, asserting, “11 years of Modi government = no accountability, no change, only propaganda. The government has stopped talking about 2025 and is now selling dreams of 2047.”

He ended his message by expressing condolences: “Who will look into what the country is facing today? I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
