Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the party had launched a website aimed at ensuring the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. This initiative comes after concerns about EVM tampering were raised during the Maharashtra and Haryana elections.
Kejriwal explained that the new platform was developed to track and monitor the voting machines, preventing tampering or discrepancies during the election process. He assured voters that they could report any suspicious activity related to the EVMs, pledging transparency and accountability in the process.
“We have developed a website as a precautionary measure. Learning from the Maharashtra and Haryana elections, we have decided that on the night of 5th February, we will upload six details of every polling booth so that the machines can’t be tampered with. If there are any discrepancies on the day of counting, you can match the numbers,” Kejriwal stated.
In a further statement, Kejriwal claimed to have received information suggesting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could cause discrepancies in up to 10% of the votes through EVMs. To counter this, he urged Delhi voters to cast their ballots in large numbers. In a video released by the party, he added, “If we have a 15% lead, we will win by 5%. So, I urge you to give us a lead of more than 10% everywhere. This is the only way to tackle machines: vote in large numbers.”
In another significant development, a total of 7,552 electors have opted for the home voting facility for the upcoming elections. The Election Commission's home voting initiative is designed to help senior citizens over the age of 85 and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) exercise their right to vote from home, thus overcoming the challenges of physically reaching polling stations.
