After facing a shocking defeat in his stronghold of New Delhi in the recent Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is reportedly set to make a political comeback through the Rajya Sabha from Punjab.
According to a TV9 Bharatvarsh report citing sources, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora is expected to vacate his seat to pave the way for Kejriwal’s entry into the Upper House. Speculations are rife that Arora may contest the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll, with his Rajya Sabha seat being reserved for the AAP supremo.
Kejriwal’s Path to Rajya Sabha Almost Certain
As per a Tribune report, the final decision will be taken only after Arora’s victory in the bypoll. However, Kejriwal’s election to Rajya Sabha is expected to be a smooth ride, as AAP holds a massive majority in Punjab with 93 out of 117 seats in the Assembly.
Interestingly, six other AAP Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab have also reportedly offered their seats to Kejriwal, but the former Delhi CM is yet to make a final decision.
A Political Comeback After Defeat
Kejriwal, who was eyeing a fourth consecutive term as MLA from the New Delhi Assembly seat, suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of BJP’s Parvesh Verma by over 4,000 votes. Since the results were declared on February 8, he has remained out of the public eye, fueling further speculation about his next political move.
