As the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections enter a crucial phase, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal arrived in Chennai on Monday to campaign alongside Chief Minister MK Stalin, giving a major boost to the INDIA bloc’s election push in the state. The visit marks one of the most visible opposition unity shows in Tamil Nadu, with the two leaders set to hold a joint roadshow in support of the ruling DMK alliance.

Kejriwal met Stalin at his residence soon after arriving in Chennai, and the meeting quickly gained political attention after the AAP leader shared pictures of the interaction on social media. Calling it an honour to meet the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Kejriwal praised Stalin’s governance model and highlighted what he described as a shared commitment to public welfare.

In a message posted after the meeting, Kejriwal said, “It was an honour to meet MK Stalin. We share a common vision for strengthening education, healthcare and women’s empowerment.”

The public endorsement is being viewed as a significant political moment, as it is the first open campaign appearance by a major INDIA bloc leader in support of Stalin during the Tamil Nadu election campaign. The joint roadshow planned by the two leaders is expected to send a strong message of opposition unity against the NDA.

According to campaign organisers, the roadshow will begin near Pulianthope P1 Police Station and move through Masjid area, Thattankulam, and Choolai, all politically significant localities in Chennai. The route has been planned to maximise public visibility and energise alliance workers ahead of polling day.

The appearance of Kejriwal beside Stalin is expected to strengthen the Secular Progressive Alliance, led by the DMK, which is seeking another term in power. Political observers believe the move could help the alliance consolidate anti-BJP votes by projecting a united opposition front.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, scheduled for April 23, will decide the fate of candidates across 234 assembly constituencies, making the state one of the key political battlegrounds in the current election cycle.

The Congress party, another INDIA bloc partner, is contesting 28 seats as part of the DMK-led alliance, further reinforcing the coalition’s united strategy. With Kejriwal’s entry into the campaign, the opposition alliance is trying to build momentum and showcase national-level support for Stalin’s leadership.

Kejriwal’s endorsement of Stalin also reflects growing coordination among INDIA bloc parties in state elections, especially in regions where the BJP is attempting to expand its presence. By highlighting governance issues such as education, healthcare, and women’s welfare, the campaign is seeking to shift voter attention toward development and welfare politics.

The joint roadshow is expected to attract significant crowds and could become one of the campaign’s most high-profile events in the final stretch before voting. For the DMK, the appearance of Kejriwal offers symbolic as well as political value, reinforcing the perception that opposition parties are rallying behind Stalin.
