Bengal Elections 2026: Fresh Voting In 15 Booths On May 2 After Polling Flaws

Fresh voting will be conducted at multiple polling stations in West Bengal after election authorities flagged irregularities in the recent Assembly elections. The directive, issued by the Election Commission of India, covers a total of 15 booths across the constituencies of Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbour.

Officials confirmed that 11 polling stations in Magrahat Paschim and four in Diamond Harbour will undergo re-polling. The decision follows detailed assessments by Returning Officers and election observers who reviewed the voting process carried out on April 29, 2026, and reported discrepancies.

After examining the findings, the Commission invoked provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 to cancel the votes recorded at the affected booths, declaring the earlier polling invalid. The order was formally communicated through the state’s Chief Electoral Officer.

The fresh round of voting has been scheduled for May 2, 2026, with polling to be conducted during fixed hours at the identified locations. Authorities said the step is intended to uphold electoral integrity and reinforce confidence in the voting process following concerns raised during the initial phase.
