Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday alleged that Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh was facing pressure to enter politics, while also condemning the recent firing incident reported outside the residence of the singer’s manager in Haryana.
Addressing reporters, the Punjab Chief Minister claimed that attempts were allegedly being made to persuade Diljit to join politics despite the artist publicly maintaining that he has no interest in entering the political arena.
“In the last few days, it was heard that Diljit was being pressurised by the BJP to enter politics,” Mann said, adding that artists should not be forced into political battles.
The Chief Minister stated that celebrities and performers should primarily be allowed to focus on entertainment and creative work instead of being dragged into political calculations.
Mann further remarked that political parties often try to attract popular public figures because of their influence among the masses and referred to the growing trend of actors and celebrities entering politics.
Without naming specific political strategies, Mann suggested that Diljit’s massive popularity could be one of the reasons behind attempts to bring him into active politics.
The Punjab Chief Minister also spoke about the recent firing incident outside the residence of Gurpartap Singh Kang in Karnal, Haryana.
“Then there are other ways of creating pressure, like shooting at someone’s manager, and someone has even claimed responsibility for it. Such kind of politics should not be done,” Mann said while reacting to the incident.
According to reports, unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire outside Kang’s residence before fleeing from the area. No injuries were reported during the incident, though the firing triggered panic among residents.
Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the attack. Reports also indicated that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly claimed responsibility for the firing, though police officials are continuing their investigation into the motive behind the incident.
Authorities are probing whether the firing was linked to intimidation, extortion or other criminal motives.
Diljit Dosanjh has repeatedly clarified through social media interactions and interviews in recent years that he does not intend to enter politics despite ongoing public speculation surrounding his popularity and influence.
