In a major push toward sustainable mobility, the Gujarat government has announced a significant tax rebate for electric vehicle (EV) buyers in the state. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi took to social media on Friday to unveil the green initiative aimed at boosting the adoption of eco-friendly transportation.
“Big Discount for E-Car Buyers in Gujarat – Drive Green, Save Big! Revving Up a Greener Future! Under the visionary leadership of Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat Government is accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles by offering a massive 5% tax rebate—bringing down the tax on EVs to just 1%! This green initiative is valid till 2026 and is now live on the VAHAN 4.0 portal. It’s the perfect time to switch to clean energy and contribute to a sustainable Gujarat,” Sanghavi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
With this announcement, Gujarat becomes one of the most EV-friendly states in India, slashing the existing tax on electric cars by 5%, bringing it down to a nominal 1%. The move is expected to not only incentivize buyers but also support India’s broader climate goals by promoting clean energy.
The rebate will be available on vehicle registrations through the VAHAN 4.0 portal and will remain effective till 2026, giving consumers a wide window to make the shift to electric mobility.
