The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) appears set for a sweeping victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, with early trends placing the ruling coalition far ahead of the Opposition. As counting progresses, both the Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party are locked in a close contest to emerge as the single largest party. At present, JDU leads in 80 seats, while BJP follows closely with 77, signalling a strong performance across regions.
Overall, the NDA is ahead in 170 constituencies, dwarfing the Mahagathbandhan’s tally of 70 seats in the initial rounds of counting. With the majority mark fixed at 122, the ruling alliance has already crossed the threshold comfortably, reinforcing expectations of another full-term government under the NDA banner.
Party insiders highlight the NDA’s strong “strike rate,” with JDU converting over 75% of its contested seats into leads and BJP recording a 74% conversion rate, reflecting a broad wave of support across urban and rural pockets of the state.
The vote-counting process is underway for all 243 Assembly seats, conducted under tight security across 46 centres in 38 districts. The counting began at 8 AM with postal ballots, followed by EVMs shortly after.
This election saw an unprecedented public response, with Bihar registering a record turnout of 67.13% across the two phases held on November 6 and November 11. Over 7.45 crore voters exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 2,616 candidates in one of the most closely watched state elections of the year.
The political battlefield this time featured major players including the RJD, BJP, JDU, and Congress, each backed by their respective alliances. The NDA comprised BJP, JDU, the LJP (Ram Vilas), RLM, and HAM; whereas the Mahagathbandhan brought together the RJD, Congress, VIP, and the Left parties.
