The Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP coalition government in Bihar has made a significant decision aimed at supporting the state's youth. During a cabinet meeting held on Friday evening, the government approved the introduction of an "unemployment allowance" for unemployed youth across Bihar. The decision, spearheaded by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, led to the approval of the Bihar Unemployment Allowance Rules 2024, which incorporates provisions under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA).
According to the newly approved rules, eligible individuals who remain unemployed after applying for jobs will receive a daily unemployment allowance from the state government if they do not secure employment within fifteen days of their application. This allowance is designed to support individuals actively seeking employment by providing financial assistance within specified limits, starting from the date of their application.
Following the Lok Sabha elections, a key meeting of the Council of Ministers was convened under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday. During this session, a total of 25 agendas were deliberated and subsequently approved by the Cabinet. It is noteworthy that Bihar is anticipated to hold assembly elections next year. In view of this, CM Kumar's decision, aimed at benefiting the youth of Bihar, is being hailed as a strategic move.
The introduction of the unemployment allowance is expected to provide much-needed relief to many young job seekers in the state, offering them financial support as they continue to look for employment opportunities. This initiative underscores the government's commitment to addressing unemployment and supporting the economic stability of its residents.
